Vintage Green Love ~ February 10, 2017

I recently came across this picture of a vintage green dining room hutch.

Not anything I would normally consider before seeing the picture!

But now, most definitely, YES

So......

I did a fun little Google image search,

And just look at all the loveliness and charm I found in this beautiful vintage green.......

Apparently, it's quite popular.

But I am just discovering it!

I may have to see what I can turn into this lovely, vintage green in my home!

Sprucing Up The Bathroom

It's amazing what a couple coats of paint and some decorative upgrades can do to make a room look 100% better. It may not be perfect, but it'll still be better!
This is what our bathroom looked like when we first moved in a year ago this past July ~ very bland, complete with a bright white toilet seat on a dark maroon toilet, and a way beyond dirty tub with an equally disgustingly dirty set of sliding shower doors. At least this picture was taken after a thorough cleaning and floor mopping!
Fortunately, we were able to get a gently used, "new" replacement for our tub and wall surround, and got rid of any sort of shower doors! While the dark maroon toilet and sink are not at all what I would have picked, they're in great condition, so I'm making do with their color and worked that fact into my paint choice for the walls.
Over the last year, I've been able to put together items toward my bathroom theme, which is a kind of an Antique Rose best I can figure. Not everything matches perfectly, but most everything is quite similar....

This theme, together with the sink and toilet color, played the biggest part in why I chose Pink Whisper for the paint color on our walls.

"Family" Picture Frame

While stopping in at my local thrift store to look for a particular book, I passed by the picture frames shelf, and happened upon this really nice, good quality frame. I didn't end up finding the book I had wanted, but I walked out very happily with my new picture frame!

When I came home, I dug out some pictures and came across a few that the children, Dean and I had taken when we went to a place called Putt Putt. They have this really cool photo booth that we had a blast squeezing into, and paid a small fortune to get our pictures painted by Leonardo, the "artist". We did this two years in a row, since going to Putt Putt was my son Charlie's request each of those years for his birthday.

I cut them to fit the openings of the new frame and, wah-lah! I was very pleased with the finished results.

There was one picture, though, that my son ended up having taken of himself upright, and obviously it would not fit with the others. So I dug out an extra black frame from my stash for that one.
Don't ask me what he's doing here, because I don't really know, but apparently it's "cool"!
Then I started looking at where I could display the new frame. I settled on the top of my roll top desk, which had already been decorated with items, but I felt it was time for a change. I placed the pictures and a few other things on the desk top, and stood back to look. Hmmm, not quite right.

I immediately decided on putting my son's picture in another black frame I have, because it also had a border of gold that tied in with my smaller gold frame, in addition to matching the new "family" one. Ahhh, that was better. But.....the display was still off. Not balanced correctly and lacking something....... So I added a bit of greenery.

Yes! That was much better. But the balance was still off, and the placement of everything just didn't seem to "fit". So, I shifted some things around, stepped back and breathed a sigh of relief. Ahhh, yes! This arrangement seemed to look appealing and balanced to my eye. Apparently, it must have passed the test with Becca, too. When she came home, she noticed the change right away and complimented that it looked cute. Now that's what I like to hear!
The end result. Nothing fancy, but I really like it!☺

P.S. The lamp is quite special because it's one that my father made. The red vase is from beautiful Valentine flowers Dean gave me. The little gold framed picture is from my mother ~ it's the Thousand Island Park Gazebo. When I was younger, my family lived in T.I. Park for a few of the most memorable years of our lives! The plant is one that Becca chose and she's had it for several years now. The votive candle holders are a gift from my older sister, and the cat plaque is a gift from my parents. WOW. That's a lot of memories and "specialness" on the top of that desk!!

Energy From Plants

Don't you find that the lush green plants in each of these pictures makes the rooms seem so welcoming and alive? I'm really beginning to like the idea of adding plants to some of the rooms in my home!

A Spot Of Tuscan

I know I've showed this before, but it bears showing again! This is one of my favorite pictures of Italian decor. The bold colors, the glass in the windows, the sunflowers....they all tie this scene in together so nicely!

Eye Catching Colors

Wow, the red, yellow and white looks fabulous and refreshing together. I just might have to try that color combination in my kitchen one day!

Cozy Glow Of A Fire

source
I've always loved to see the flames of a fire dancing while sitting around the wood stove.
It's also my favorite type of heat for a house!

Redesigned Closet

source
Remove the closet doors, add storage solutions, a rod and some pretty curtain panels for an easily accessible closet. Especially for children!

We removed the door to my son's closet because the it opened out into what is an already small room, taking up valuable space for furniture placement. That really made a big difference in our case! We also placed a tall dresser within the closet cavity, eliminating the need for another piece of furniture in the room itself. This gives him a bit more floor space, too.

Welcome Home

Entryway Dos:
  • Create an inviting and eye-catching entrance, both inside and out.
  • Include uplifting "greeters," such as a waterfall or piece of artwork.
  • Add bright and beautiful lighting so the pathway is safe and visible.
  • Place inspiring objects leading up to the door, like a meandering pathway and flowers.
  • Add plants, especially evergreens, which will stay lush all year.

Western Style Living Room

This is a style that Dean would really like for our home!

I like the warm, inviting feeling of this space.

Sliding Door Window Treatments

I currently have vertical blinds at my 6' sliding door like the ones below. In the evening, when I like them closed, they're usually getting hung up on the throw rug I have down to catch the dirt and debris when we come in from the patio. Or, the animals find them quite fun to try and walk through as they fight for a position at the window to see just what's going on out there. This can get quite annoying, as I find myself always trying to realign them so they hang properly, which, ultimately is a never ending battle!

I think I'd like to consider something that's more like a drape, that slides back and forth freely on a simple rod. It's either open, or closed. No muss, no fuss - and the animals can do whatever they want without much disturbance to the drapes at all. Ah, now wouldn't that be nice!

1950's Practical Kitchen Storage

Wow! Here's a good thought for plenty of storage, of which I can never have enough in a kitchen. (Not crazy about the red and turquoise colors with the green and yellow, though!)

Laundry Basket Organization Rack

This is an excellent idea!

Simple Kitchen Shelves

I just love the cool blue wall color with these white shelves! Wish I could see the whole kitchen.... I think it would look crisp, fresh and inviting!
