Pretty Is As Pretty Does

I remember this phrase from when I was a little girl. For some reason, the other day it just popped into my head. I think I used to hear my great-grandmother say it. We don't hear sayings like these too much anymore, but they're no less needed in today's day and age. Ironically, I heard of an incident just yesterday where this phrase would have quite aptly applied!

Pretty is as pretty does.  (old-fashioned)
Something that you say which means that you should judge people by the way they behave, not by their appearance. For example, "She's very pretty." "Yes, but pretty is as pretty does. I haven't been terribly impressed by her manners."
