Streak Free Windows

With the sunny days we've been having lately, my windows have really been looking like they need a good cleaning. Especially my sliding door, which looks awful when the sun comes around to the west side of the house. I can never seem to get a clear, streak free view out of it!

So, I decided to skip the usual glass cleaner and toweling, and opted instead for my old, trusty mop bucket filled with hot soapy water, vinegar and a cloth to see if that would do any better. I also grabbed two 100% cotton dishtowels for wiping down the window after it was washed. I ran straight hot water into the bucket, added just 2-3 drops of dishsoap and about a 1/4 c. of vinegar to about 1 gallon of water. (If the water is too hot, you can pull on a pair of yellow rubber gloves to help your hands tolerate the hot water.)

I wet the cloth and wrung it out loosely so that there was enough water left in the cloth to wash the window nicely. (I did this twice for the top and bottom half of each panel of glass.) Immediately after each section was washed, I wiped it down with the dry dishtowel very thoroughly. It took all of about 10 minutes, and really looked fabulous! But, the true test would be when I looked through the glass with the sun shining through it. Amazingly, the hot, soapy water method did the trick, and I just couldn't resist sharing the good news with you!

If you try this for yourself, don't forget to wash both the inside and outside glass
or one side will still be streaked. ☺
