What better way to bring in the New Year than to wake to a sunrise, and enjoy the beauty of sunshine and a brilliant blue sky? I think it's been nearly 2 weeks since I've seen a day like today!
Dean has decided to take advantage of his time off by splitting firewood, to keep our supply plentiful. While there's a slight bit of residual snow on the ground, completing the task will actually be enjoyable with the warm sunshine as his companion. Of course, I've also packed him a lunch to snack on throughout the day as he works. So much easier than stopping to come in and be lulled into complacency once the heat of the crackling fire hits you!
We've had our share of snow in December.... as have many other locations near and far.
I never tire of the beauty of freshly fallen snow, despite the gray skies and cold temperatures that comes with it! Our backyard trees always put on a lovely display..... Have you enjoyed some pretty scenery as well?
This Red Bellied Woodpecker took a moment to enjoy a peanut suet nugget, a new treat I've added to the menu this year... Many of the birds absolutely love it! I just wish the weather would warm up enough for me to get a chance to clean the windows again. Spots and blemishes are no good for my picture taking!
After a while, I myself will have a snack, and will reheat some delicious split pea and ham soup I made for last night's dinner. I couldn't resist taking a picture! I think it's one of my favorites.....is it one of yours?
There's nothing like a good, hot bowl of soup to warm your insides, and cure what ails you! And while I know many people are thinking of better ways, and new resolutions to improve their lives, I prefer to quietly sit back and reflect on all that brought me enjoyment over the last year, and look forward to all I can do that will foster good things to continue to come my way. I've always liked quotes that compare the New Year to a blank book, it's pages just waiting to be written on with new opportunities and adventures we embark on that beautifully become happy moments in the days of our lives.....
