The Best Brownies

MMMmmmm....

Brownies

  • 1/2 c butter
  • 3 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate, chopped
  • 1 c sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 c flour
  • 3/4 c chocolate, peanut butter, or white chocolate chips (optional)
Preheat the oven to 350 F (180 C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking dish, preferably glass.
In a saucepan over low heat, combine the butter and chopped chocolate. Heat, stirring often, until melted, about 4 minutes.

Remove from the heat and stir in the sugar and salt. Add the eggs and vanilla and stir until blended. Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir until just blended. Stir in the chips, if you're using them.

Pour the batter into the dish and spread evenly. Bake until a toothpick comes out almost completely clean, about 30 minutes (don’t overbake). Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
